Temagami Hiking Trails
There is a wealth of hiking and backpacking trails in Temagami. Hundreds of
kilometers are accessible by walking. (Add canoe-accessible trails and you
have hundreds more).
Hike for the day, or backpack for a longer outdoor adventure with
camping.
Most hiking and backpacking trails are no wider than a meter –just enough
for a wilderness hiker.
Most hiking trails are blazed, painted, signed and mapped for
navigation. Hiking trails are rugged and remote, so be prepared.

REMOTE CABIN ARTISTIC RETREATS
Choose your own dates.
$60 pp / day
Leave so-called civilization behind and retreat to a rustic lakeside cabin in the
Temagami wilderness. Hike through old forests of pine, cedar, maple and birch,
and stop along the way to be still or observe wildlife. Settle into your wilderness
retreat and cook on a woodstove, fetch water and chop wood. Cabins are well
equipped with cooking utensils and sleep six in three double bunks. It's a
wonderful place for creative writing, painting or a special, quiet, healing space.
OTTAWA-TEMISKAMING HIGHLAND TRAIL
Hike these trails on your own with maps. Or ask us about local hiking club
updates.
Various meal and lodging packages are available at Smoothwater.
Smoothwater predicts in 50 years, the Ottawa-Temiskaming Highland
hiking trail will be as popular as the Appalachian trail in the USA.
This 85 km trail runs continuously along the eastern shoreline of Lake
Temiskaming, affording spectacular lookouts, especially for the fall colours. Plus
there are 15 km of additional side trails. Start at Maclarens’s Bay, finish in
Latchford. There are 6 entry points by road, and 10 by canoe. Backpack the
entire trail in 7 days, or in shorter day hikes.

appointment.
