Temagami Wilderness
Hike ancient pine forests, canoe hundreds of miles of shoreline,
swim fresh waters, breathe clean air, or cross country ski
and snowshoe silent forests. This is ecotourism in
Temagami, northeastern Ontario, Canada.
Geographically, Temagami
is the size of Algonquin Park (and just one hour further).
A village, a region, and a lake, Temagami has seven Ontario provincial parks,
including the Lady Evelyn Wilderness Class Park, the Sturgeon River Waterway
Park, Finlayson Provincial Park, and over 400,00 hectares of crown land. That’s
a lot of canoeing to enjoy. In fact, Temagami showcases North America’s
most extensive canoe route system. You can canoe and portage without retracing
your route, be it two days or two months.
It is these very canoe routes
that the First Nations people have been paddling and snowshoeing
for over 5,000 years. That’s a living history
for you to explore when you are paddling on a canoe trip,
hiking, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.
Speaking of hiking,
Temagami boasts the two highest points of land in Ontario,
Maple Mountain, and Ishpatina Ridge –both accessible
by canoe. And
thanks to dedicated volunteers, Temagami has a mapped, trail
system for backpackers and hikers that tour you through old
growth pine forests and spectacular vistas -beautiful in
spring and summer, but especially for the fall colours.
Come visit Temagami for your wilderness pilgrimage. You’ll
reconnect with the power of Nature, and yourself.
