Temagami is a large region and you may need some help orienting yourself to it. You'll start your canoe trip with confidence when you take advantage of our various planning services.
Route Consultations
Our outfitters have over 100 years of combined canoe tripping experience and are long-time Temagami residents. Our personal experience and local knowledge yield a “beyond the guidebook” trip that’s customized just for you. We take pride in designing a canoe route that suits your particular desires, abilities, and timeframe.
Maps
Smoothwater produces its own series of route-specific maps for the canoe trips we recommend most frequently. We are also proud to stock Friends of Temagami’s Adventure Planning Map, which offers a complete overview of the Temagami area in greater detail. We stock select topographic maps of the local area, and have an extensive topo library for Ontario & Quebec rivers.
Park Permits
All paddlers are required to purchase a permit if they intend to camp overnight within any of Temagami’s backcountry parks; permits are purchased online through Ontario Parks. We are happy to walk you through the booking process, outlining which nights you’ll spend in parks vs Crown land.
Shuttles
Most of the vehicle access to Temagami’s backcountry is via logging roads. These roads can be confusing and rough on your vehicle. If that doesn’t sound like much fun, let us do the driving with our convenient and worry-free shuttle service. Secure parking for your vehicle is available free of charge at Smoothwater.
